What sparked your passion for elder protection law?
“You know,” Ted starts, leaning back in his chair with a thoughtful smile, “it wasn’t one singular event. It was more of a gradual realization. Whether it’s financial scams, neglect, or even physical harm, they often lack the resources or capacity to protect themselves. That’s when I knew I wanted to dedicate my practice to advocating for their rights and ensuring their well-being.”

Ted nods enthusiastically, “That’s a critical stage where we take immediate steps to safeguard the elder’s well-being. Depending on the situation, this might involve:
- Filing for restraining orders or protective orders against abusers.
- Notifying Adult Protective Services (APS) so they can investigate and intervene.
- Seeking guardianship or conservatorship if the elder is unable to make their own decisions.
We also focus on financial protections, such as freezing bank accounts, revoking power of attorney that’s being misused, or preventing unauthorized property transfers. In some cases, we might even need to facilitate a transfer to a safer living environment, like an assisted living facility or nursing home.”
